A new book reveals that Britain has invaded almost every country on the planet at some point in history. The book is called: "All the Countries we've Ever Invaded: And the Few We Never Got Round To."
WHAT COUNTED AS AN INVASION?
The author considered every country that has had a British presence in their territory. The presence had to be a result of threats, negotiation, payment, or old-fashioned force. The invasion had to have been approved by the government. He even included countries that were raided by British pirates, such as Costa Rica and Ecuador.
WERE THERE ANY SURPRISES?
In 1940, Britain invaded Iceland because they refused to join the Allies in World War II.Twenty years before the U.S. fought the Vietnam War, Britain invaded Vietnam to contain the spread of communism.Britain even invaded Cuba in 1741 in a war with Spain.
WHICH COUNTRIES HAVEN'T BEEN INVADED BY THE BRITISH?
There are only twenty-two countries that Britain didn't invade.Sweden and Mongolia are the best known countries that were spared, but the rest are mostly smaller nations and city-states.
